Thoracic Trauma - Secondary Survey

In short, this consists of:

  1. Physical examination
  2. ECG and oximetry.
  3. Blood gas measurement.
  4. Upright CXR in patients w/o suspected spinal injury
  5. CT chest with suspected aortic or spinal injury

Aimed to detect the following injuries:

  1. Simple PTX
  2. Hemothorax (non-massive).
  3. Flail chest
  4. Pulmonary contusion
  5. Blunt cardiac injury
  6. Traumatic aortic disruption
  7. Traumatic diaphragmatic injury
  8. Blunt esophageal rupture
