Chemoprophylaxis for Meningococcus

Indications

1. Close contacts within 24 hours (up to 10 days) of diagnosis of the case (provided there is a high index of suspicion for N meningitidis infection).
2. NOT recommended for casual contacts, HCW in contact, etc.
3. The rationale is to PREVENT invasive infection, and eradicate/prevent nasopharyngeal colonisation.
